Onkyo Braille Essay Contest 2006 -- International Section (Middle East, Central and Southern Asia) Highly Commended "The changes which Braille script brought about in my life" Ms. Shamsiddinova Forima Mirzomahmadovna (Tajikistan: 18-year-old) Essay written by pupil of 12th form of boarding-school for blind and half-blind people in Hissar |
Life is like a sea, where not all human's dreams come true. While realizing their dreams people face a lot of difficulties. If careful attention is paid, life itself seems to be like a stage, where each person plays his/her own role. In this mysterious world people in spite of their desires and quests, differ from each other with their different characters. This reminds us of nature in which there are different leaves in trees. If you look at stones, two stones are not similar. The reason is that they differ from each other with their different characters too. At the present day there are lots of people who are engaged in various activities. Everyone is eager to make a contribution to his / her society. As our tradition says, not all people look like each other. The first person was left speechless, the second with one leg, the third with one hand. All these disabled people have sincere attitudes towards each other. Now I want to talk about people who lost their visual ability by nature. These people in spite of their shortage have desire to live. They feel beauty of nature and thanks to this positive imagination, they make their life more interesting. Blind people are also well-educated. Earlier people were deeply surprised with the abilities of blind persons. Later on, was invented the first reading system for the blind called "The Braille Script". Spread of knowledge in all places became possible for the blind through this system. There are plenty of people who, thanks to the first reading system for the blind, could escape from the boat of illiteracy and improved their level of knowledge. The purpose of stating all this is that I am also blind and the Braille script plays the main role in my life. When I lost this valuable treasure, I was studying in the 9th form. At that time, I lost my interest towards life. It was as if my life was covered by dark clouds. Luckily, the Braille script like a sun appeared, uncovered these clouds and made my life happier. It could bring me back to light. Once upon a time, I was invited to Avrora's Society. I found out that girls, there, are taught different skills. In addition, people who are fated to be blind, were taught by Braille script. At that moment I was very gloomy, not one skill had a value for me, teaching of this script seemed to be a gift by God. During study, I was taught the special things through Braille script by Qurbonmamadov Jum'a. The duration of teaching was two months. It deeply impressed me because learning this script is necessary, for me, like water and air. Before I used to be like a dove who had lost wings. I though that because of my fate I faced this difficulty. At that time I felt better myself, when I could learn this script, it seemed to me that my injured wings were gradually beings cured. Day by day my interest towards this script increased. When training was over, I felt frustrated because I was deprived of useful conversations and jokes of teachers. Fortunately, they found out about my situation and tried their best to continue the training process. Thanks to support of my teachers in 2003, I went to boarding school for blind and blind people in Hissar. There, I was warmly welcomed by my Classmates and teachers. Thus, I have been studying three years in this boarding school. I am about to pass my state exams. I am very delighted that due to Braille script, I could find many friends in this sacred place and even outside. At the present moment, I am engaged in reading and editing romances, stories, essays and genres of poets using this Braille system and also playing the main role in increasing the level of my knowledge. Tajik people with very ancient culture and heritage have traditionally valuable treasures and customs. With the help of the Braille script I am able to understand this culture much better and obtain fresh knowledge about other cultures, too. I express my gratitude to the founder of this magic script and to my teacher who taught me through this script. I am also eager to express my sincere gratitude to Qurbonmamadov Jum'a, who taught me Braille letters. In conclusion, the Braille script made a great improvement for me. It gave me positive energy. I am happy by the fact that I can read and write with this sacred script. |
